Research Theme 1: The Impact of Digitalisation on Work and Employment

Lorraine Mackenzie

Background My research focuses on digitalisation and the impact on labour market outcomes. In particular I will look at wage inequality as a result of technological change. The first paper will focus on the diffusion and adoption of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, and the impact this has on the labour market. I started my PhD in October 2021, after completing my MSc in Development Economics (Sussex: Distinction), and BA in Economics (Stirling: First). David Frayne

Background David is a sociologist specialising in the future of work and welfare. Prior to his position at Cambridge, he worked as an ethnographer in Welsh community organisations and as a Berggruen Fellow, based in the philosophy department at New York University. He is also interested in working in a policy context, and has undertaken significant work on the prospects for a basic income and a shorter working week, as an affiliate with the think-tank Autonomy. Dr. Ioulia Bessa

I received my PhD in Cass Business School, City University and joined CERIC in 2013. Between 2013-2015 I held a post-doctoral post between Leeds University Business School and the School of Social Sciences and in 2015 I became one of the 250 Academic University Fellows. I am a lecturer and scholar at the University of Aberdeen, formerly Vice-Principal for Research 2011-2014. Background I was awarded a PhD in Sociology at the University of Kent. Prof. Simon Deakin

Simon Deakin is a professor of law and director of the Centre for Business Research at the University of Cambridge. Background He specialises in the economic and empirical analysis of law, with particular reference to labour and financial markets.
