
I am Professor of Employment Studies and Co-Director of the Centre of Employment Relations Innovation and Change at the University of Leeds , and I am co-ordinator of the Q Step Programme at the University of Leeds, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, and the ESRC. The University of Leeds is one of 15 Universities funded to promote a step change in quantitative training in the social sciences. I teach and research in work, employment relations, Human Resource Management and the sociology of work.
Background
I have been a researcher and lecturer at the University of Leeds since 1998. My research interests look at the changing nature of work, and the implications of these changes for workers, including the gig or platform economy. My principal research interest is in temporary agency working, but I also I also conduct research into migration. I have published in a range of journals, and have undertaken commissioned and funded research for end users and policymakers, including ACAS, the European Parliament, the TUC, the Home Office, BEIS, the Welsh Assembly, and Leeds City Council.

Work, employment, human resource management, migration, gig economy, temporary and contingent work, digitalisation of work, restructuring, job quality, quantitative and qualitative methods.
