Before joining Sussex, Maria worked as a Research Associate in the Centre for Industrial Sustainability in the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge and obtained a PhD in Management Engineering from Politecnico di Milano.

Her work concerns innovations in operations and supply chains for more sustainable, resilient, and better performing processes, products and services. She investigates how technologies, such as internet of things (IoT), sensors and smart devices, 3D printing, big data, and cyber-physical systems (CPS) can enable higher value opportunities for the creation and delivery of industrial and consumer products and services, and how to integrate environmental and social aspects in technology opportunity evaluations.
