As part of his Marie Jahoda Visiting Fellowship (2022), Maarten Renkema investigated ‘How AI technologies are likely to shape the future roles of HR professionals’.
The Fellowship is centered around the question in what ways Artificial Intelligence (AI) is likely to shape the future role of Human Resources (HR) professionals. Although a full analysis has to be concluded and a second workshop will be organized, the preliminary results from the first workshop highlight the dual nature of AI applications in the HR domain: they pose (ethical) challenges, but also offer opportunities for HR to augment its value contribution. These developments might require a shift in the skillset of HR professionals, steering them towards more data analytical capabilities, advanced AI literacy, and a strategic mindset, potentially reducing their engagement with routine tasks.
